
Decker Tops Ranked Opponent on Opening Day of Kitty Harrison Invitational

Cats finish 2-2 in doubles play in Chapel Hill
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - K-State's Margot Decker picked up her second ranked victory of the season on the first day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the University of North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Decker, a freshman, moves to 5-3 this season after defeating International Tennis Association (ITA) No. 116 ranked Silvia Chinellato of South Carolina, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10).
Aside from Decker, the Cats were outmatched in singles play by South Carolina, dropping the team's remaining five singles matches.
Sophomore Meghan King was topped by the ITA No. 28 Ingrid Gamarra Martins, 0-6, 0-6. The Overland Park, Kansas, product falls to 3-5 this season in singles play.
It took freshman Maria Linares three sets to be fended off by ITA No. 107 Hadley Berg, 1-6, 6-2, 0-1 (10-6). Linares drops to 5-2 this season.
Sophomore Ines Mesquita took just her second loss of the fall season when she faced the Gamecocks' Megan Davies and fell, 3-6, 2-6. The native of Portugal is now 9-2 this season.
Senior Carolina Costamagna fell to the Gamecocks' Rachel Rohrabacher in straight sets, 3-6, 6-7. Costamagna is 6-5 this season in singles play.
Freshman Anna Turco took her third loss of the season against Paige Cline of South Carolina. She is now 7-3 this season as a singles player.
The Cats then split results in doubles play against Virginia and North Carolina, as Linares and Mesquita topped Virginia's Maya Das and Erica Susi, 8-3. The duo then topped North Carolina's Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Maggie Kane, 8-7(4).
Decker and Costamagna fell to Virginia's Chloe Gullickson and Camille Favero, 7-8. Later, Costamagna and King were defeated by North Carolina's Marika Akkerman and Cassandra Vazquez, 3-8.
K-State will continue the 13-team invitational with doubles play on Saturday against William and Mary at 8 a.m. CT, and face off with Michigan and Duke in singles beginning at 9:30 a.m. Fans can follow results live through the official K-State women's tennis Twitter account @KStateTEN.
