K-State Athletics Hall of Fame

Harold Robinson
- Induction:
- 2004
- Class:
- 1950
Harold Robinson was the first African-American student-athlete at Kansas State University. Additionally, he was the first African-American in the Big Seven Conference to be awarded an athletic scholarship in 1950.
He opened the door for future Kansas State stars Veryl Switzer (football), Earl Woods (baseball), Gene Wilson (men’s basketball) and Don Harris (tennis). Harold won the respect of opponents and fans despite the prevalent racial tension during his playing days and earned first team All-Big Seven honors in 1950 as a center.
Robinson was a 1948 graduate of Manhattan High School. After K-State, he went on to serve his country during the Korean War, earning a purple heart.
