K-State in Sixth After Day One in Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – The Kansas State men's golf team is in sixth place at 2-under par following the first 33 holes of action on Monday at the Hal Williams Collegiate at the par-71, 7,178-yard RTJ Magnolia Grove Golf Club.

After the start of the event was delayed by weather, the Wildcats jumped out of the gate by firing a first-round score of 6-under par 278 – their second-best round of the season – to end the first 18 holes tied for third place. However, through 15 holes of second-round action before play was suspended due to darkness, the Wildcats are at 4-over par.

K-State is led by senior Luke O'Neill, who is tied for 16th place at 2-under par for the tournament thanks to a current second-round score of 3-under par. With three holes remaining in the current round, O'Neill has three birdies and two bogeys to go along with an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole.

One shot behind O'Neill is junior Nicklaus Mason at 1-under par to sit in a tie for 20th place. He began the event by firing a 3-under par 68 in the first round, tied for his second-best round of the season.

Sophomore Alex Lindstrom will open the final day in a tie for 28th place at even par thanks in part to a first-round score of 2-under par 69. Juniors JP Roller and Cooper Schultz are tied for 50th place at 3-over par as Roller turned in a 1-under par 70 for the first round, while Schultz shot even par in the first 18. Playing as an individual, junior Ian McCrary is in 80th place at 14-over par.

No. 20 Illinois leads the event at 16-under par – three shots ahead of VCU – thanks to a current-round score of 10-under par. Both the Illini and the Rams have individuals tied for first place on the individual leaderboard at 7-under par in Piercen Hunt and Ugo Malcor, respectively.
