LOXLEY Ala. – After a 2-under par final round on Sunday, the Kansas State men's golf team concluded the fall slate with a seventh-place finish in the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational hosted by the par-72, 7,096-yard Steelwood Country Club. Sophomore Oliver Toyer led the Cats by tying for third place and recording the 10th-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Due to their strong first-round performance, the Cats recorded their best 54-hole score of the fall at 15-under par 849, tying with Virginia for seventh place.
"I thought we played pretty solid today," said head coach Grant Robbins, whose team finished 17 shots ahead of No. 45 Memphis and four shots shy of the No. 46 and No. 47 teams, Mississippi State and Rutgers. "The course played a little more difficult today, and we hit a lot of high-quality shots, especially on the last few holes. Overall, it was a good week. There were a lot of positives we can build on. We played the par 3s extremely well and everyone contributed. The difference was really putting. Outside of Oliver, we just didn't convert enough putts especially from 6-12 feet."
A product of Cambridgeshire, England, Toyer tied his best finish of the year after etching his name in the top-10 in school history with a 54-hole score of 13-under par 203. The sophomore finished the fall by placing in the top 10 in all four stroke-play events this fall. He also claimed two of the best three single rounds of the Wildcats at the Steelwood with a pair of 6-under par 66s in the first two rounds, and he finished the event with a score of 1-under par 71 in the final round.
Junior Erik Sabelström Holmberg finished off a career-best performance by going 1-under par 71 in his final round. Sabelström Holmberg ended the weekend with his best 54-hole performance, scoring a 3-under par 213. The Swede also tallied the best round of his career over the weekend where he shot a 6-under par 66 in the first round thanks to eight birdies.
Fionn Dobbin and Octavio Laurent both finished their weekend at 2-over par 218 to tie for 46th place. Dobbin had an even-par 72 tally in the final round, while Laurent ended at 1-over par 73.
Ville Virkkala totaled an even-par 72 in the final round, landing him at 3-over par 219 as he tied for 50th place. Competing as an individual, Peyton Smith finished at 5-over par 221 and tied for 73rd place after a final-round score of 2-over par 74.
Auburn's score of 42-under par 822 proved to be enough to give the third-ranked Tigers a two-stroke victory over No. 13 Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech's Albert Hansson finished with a 20-under par 196 on the weekend to win the individual crown.
"It's been a pretty solid fall," continued Robbins. "We have such a young team, but you can see glimpses of what they can become. The offseason is going to be extremely important. If everyone can get just a little bit better in a few areas, we have a chance to be a really good team this spring."
With the performance in Loxley, the Wildcats' 2026 fall season comes to an end. The Cats finished with a 34-14-4 record through five events, finishing in the top five in three of their stroke-play events.
K-State will kick off its spring season February 15-16 at the Hal Williams Intercollegiate in Mobile, Alabama.
