K-State Battles Rough Conditions on Tuesday

LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Kansas State men's golf team battled gusty conditions over the final part of Tuesday's second round as the Wildcats recorded a total of 23-over par 307 at The Prestige held at the par-71, 7,129-yard Greg Norman Course of PGA WEST.
The Wildcats dropped into 17th place with a 36-hole score of 23-over par 591.
"We kind of got the bad end of the draw today, unfortunately, as the wind kicked up on our last 11 holes," said head coach Grant Robbins, whose team began its round on the 10th tee in the late morning. "The last few holes we played were probably the toughest conditions I've ever been in with 30-40 mile-per-hour wind gusts. The guys battled, but we just gave away too many shots on that last 9. We need to regroup, come back out and put up a solid round tomorrow"
Senior Alex Lindstrom and freshman Ville Virkkala led the way as each produced a 4-over par 75 on Tuesday. Lindstrom enters Wednesday's final round tied for 41st place at 4-over par 146. Virkkala is three shots back and tied for 62nd place.
Another freshman, Oliver Toyer, is tied for 55th place at 6-over par 148 following a second-round score of 7-over par 78. Senior JP Roller and sophomore Fionn Dobbin are tied for 86th place with a two-round total of 10-over par 152.
No. 28 Stanford rose three spots into first place at 5-under par 563, three shots ahead of 15th-ranked Texas Tech, which moved 10 spots up the leaderboard following a 9-under par round. Oregon's Aiden Krafft is atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under par 137.
In The Prestige Individual held at the par-72 Golf Club at Terra Lago, senior Shea Harmeson recorded a second-round total of 1-over par 73 to improve nine spots into a tie for ninth place at 4-over par 148. Another senior, Ben Stoller, tallied a round of 5-over par 77 and is tied for 27th place at 8-over par 152.
The Wildcats begin the final round of The Prestige on Wednesday at 1:55 p.m. (CT) off the first tee. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd, while results of the Prestige Individual are available here.
