SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Kansas State women's golf team put together a second-round score of 2-under par 286 on Tuesday but was unable to make up any ground on the leaderboard as the Wildcats remain in eighth place in the 2026 NCAA Louisville Regional held at the par-72, 6,384-yard University of Louisville Golf Club.
K-State holds a 36-hole score of 1-under par 575, seven shots behind fifth-place Virginia Tech as the Wildcats look to be one of the top five teams in the field to advance to the 2026 NCAA Championship after Wednesday's final round.
"It was a small step forward this afternoon, but we still left a bunch out there," head coach Stew Burke said. "I am proud of the way we finished, but we are going to need a monster run tomorrow to be able to advance. I still believe we have one monster round left in us this spring – and the ladies do too – so we are going to give it our all tomorrow and see where it lies. It has been too good of a season for it to end on a Wednesday in Louisville."
Sophomore Nanami Nakashima and freshman Stalee Fields each produced under-par rounds to lead the Wildcats on Tuesday.
A native of Kani, Japan, Nakashima turned in a second-straight round in red figures by posting a 2-under par 70, bringing her 36-hole score to 7-under par 137 as she resides in a tie for third place. Nakashima, who tallied her team-high tying 14th under-par round of the season, went bogey-free and made the turn at 1-under par thanks to a birdie on No. 6. After birdieing No. 13, she hit her first trouble since the first hole of the tournament with consecutive bogeys on Nos. 15 and 16. However, Nakashima righted the ship with a chip-in eagle on the par-5 17th to get her back under par.
If the Wildcats are unable to advance as a team on Wednesday, Nakashima is looking to be the top individual on a non-advancing team to move on to the NCAA Championship.
Fields, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas, carded a second-round score of 1-under par 71 – her third under-par round of the season – as she moved 12 spots up the leaderboard to a tie for 30th place at 1-over par 145. Fields parred her first eight holes on Tuesday and finished the outward 9 with a birdie. After a birdie on No. 11, she bogeyed Nos. 12 and 15 to bring her second-round score back to even, but a birdie on the par-4 18th gave her an under-par round for the first time in 15 tries.
Sophomore Kelsey Chen moved up six spots on Tuesday and is tied with Fields for 30th place after turning in a score of even-par 72. She had an up-and-down day by sandwiching two birdies around a double-bogey on No. 3, recording birdies in Nos. 9 and 11 but bogeying Nos. 13 and 16 to bring her score back to even.
Senior Noa van Beek is tied for 45th place at 4-over par 148 after shaving two shots off her first-round total during a round of 1-over par 73 on Tuesday. Freshman Keen Visavapattamawan enters Wednesday's final round in 60th place at 12-over par 156.
No. 30 Houston remained atop the team leaderboard at 19-under par 557, two shots ahead of seventh-ranked Auburn. Iowa State is in third place at 13-under par 563 and Arkansas is in fourth place at 11-under par 565 with Virginia Tech rounding out the top five.
Auburn's Anna Davis and Indiana's Sheridan Clancy – the latter of whom is not currently in line to be on an advancing team – are tied for the individual lead at 9-under par 135.
The Wildcats start the final round of the 2026 NCAA Louisville Regional on Wednesday morning with tee times beginning at 8:55 a.m. (ET), and K-State will be paired with Xavier and College of Charleston.
