Wildcats Start NCAA West Preliminary Competition in Sacramento

Competition is from Wednesday to Saturday in Sacramento
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's track and field teams will start competition in the four-day NCAA West Preliminary on Wednesday (May 24) in Sacramento, Calif., at Hornet Stadium.

The West Preliminary runs from Wednesday (May 24) through Saturday (May 27) and helps determine the field for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which are set for June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

The top 12 individual competitors from each event and the top 12 from each relay event advance from each Preliminary (East and West) to the NCAA Championships.
Â
On Wednesday only men will compete in the first round with the women competing in the first round on Thursday.
Â
Junior Kade McCall will start off Wednesday in the hammer throw at 12 p.m. CT, while junior Joe Placek follows in the javelin throw at 3:30 p.m., CT.

After a break in the afternoon, freshman Jhavor Bennett will compete in the long jump at 8 p.m., CT followed by junior Jesse Pinkley in the pole vault at 8:30 p.m., CT.

The 1,500 meters will start off the track events at 8:30 p.m., CT, with senior Stephen Kielhofner and junior Hadley Splechter, while junior Kyle Gale competes in the 400 meter dash at 9:25 p.m., CT.

On Thursday, the hammer throw will start the day off again, as junior Emma Robbins and sophomore Monique Hardy kick off the competition at 12 p.m., CT. At 3:30 p.m., junior Urte Bacianskaite will compete in the javelin throw.

After the break in the day sophomore Grace Thompson will compete in the shot put at 8 p.m., CT, at the same time, Bacianskaite and Shalom Olotu will start in the long jump. Senior Shalysa Wray will end the day at 10:45 p.m., CT, in the 200 meter dash.

The ESPN+ stream will begin at 8 p.m., CT, on both Wednesday and Thursday.
