Pouzancre-Hoyer Wins Heptathlon, Six Wildcats Compete in Multis

Four freshmen and two seniors competed in the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon
SAN ANGELO, Texas – The K-State track and field teams had six combined events athletes kick off the outdoor season on March 26-27 in the David Noble Relays at LeGrand Stadium, highlighted by freshman Lalie Pouzancre-Hoyer winning the women's heptathlon with 5,570 points.
Pouzancre-Hoyer, a native of Montpellier, France, is now no. 9 in the K-State women's school records at 5,570 points, a performance she achieved winning three events and two personal bests. Two of her wins happened on the track, the 100-meter hurdles in 13.89 seconds and in the 200 meters in 24.14 seconds. She won the long jump with a personal best of four inches at 6.12m (20' 1"), also recording a personal best in the shot put.
Other women to compete in the heptathlon included fellow freshman Zoey Brinker and senior Kayla Goodwin, while three men competed in the decathlon, including senior Emil Uhlin as runner-up and freshmen Dorian Charles and Mattix DaCunha.
Just one point shy of her teammate, Brinker finished runner-up with 5,569 points, no. 10 in the school records. Her best event was the high jump, winning with a new personal best clearance of 1.85m (6' 0.75"), more than 4 inches taller than her competitors. She finished runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.21 seconds and had 3rd place finishes in three other events, the 200 and 800 meters and long jump.
Goodwin finished in 4th place with 5,201 points, as she won both the throwing events. During the shot put she won with her best throw of 12.25m (40' 2.25"), while throwing the javelin a distance of 36.37m (119' 4"). She also finished runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.99m (19' 8").
Uhlin, competing in his 8th decathlon as a Wildcat, finished runner-up with 7,773 points, just 86 points shy of his personal best. He won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.85m (15' 11") while finishing 2nd in four more field events, the shot put, high jump, discus throw and javelin. He ran his fastest 100-meter dash, even in windy conditions, in 10.78 seconds (4.7) in 5th place.
Charles finished 3rd overall with 7,720 points, now the no. 8 best performance in the K-State records. He won two throwing events, the discus throw at 42.99m (141' 0"), and the javelin with a launch of 58.40m (191' 7"). Charles finished top-3 in six of the events, including runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.10 (2.5) and in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.55m (14' 11").
DaCunha scored 6,959 points in 5th place, finishing top-5 in five of the ten events. He won the 100-meter dash in 10.58 seconds (4.7) with other top performances in the sprints, 3rd place in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.37 seconds (2.5) and 5th in the 400 meters in 48.83 seconds.
The rest of the K-State track and field teams will begin the outdoor season next week on April 3-4 in the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
