K-State will race closest to home in the annual race in Kansas City
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team is set for the annual Sunflower Showdown duel against Kansas on Saturday (April 11) at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kan.
Racing is set to start at 9 a.m. with the following schedule:
9:00 a.m.- 3v8+
9:15 a.m.- 2v4+
9:30 a.m.- 1v4+
9:45 a.m.- 2v8+
10:00 a.m.- 1v8+
"We're always excited for another opportunity to compete. Each race is a chance to keep building and continue pushing the program forward," head coach Kennedy Felice said. "We're a young team, and our water time has been inconsistent this season, but we have a good group of athletes that want to work. We're focused on controlling what we can. This team is fit and strong and we're ready to see what we can accomplish this weekend."
In the last two seasons the Wildcats have won two races over the Jayhawks, the 1v4+ and 3v8+. K-State last won the Kansas Cup in 2023 with wins in the 1v8+, 2v8+ and 3v8+.
During the last race in the Sarasota 2k on March 27-28, two boats competed in the Petite 'B' final, the 3v8+ and 1v4+. During the first race of the season, the Hornet Invitational on March 14-15, the 1v4+ won two out of its three races.
"This race is the closest to home for us, so there is always a strong showing from our families, friends and alumni. We appreciate their continued support of our program and want to say thank you to everyone that has come to our races this season," Felice added.
