The 6-foot-11 forward was a 4-star prospect before redshirting at LSU.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – First-year head coach Casey Alexander continued to announce his signing class on Friday (April 24) with the addition of Matt Gilhool (Elizabethtown, Pa./William Penn Charter/LSU) to the 2026-27 men's basketball roster.
A 6-foot-11, 213-pound forward from Elizabethtown, Pa., Gilhool arrives at K-State after redshirting as a true freshman for head coach Matt McMahon at LSU in 2025-26.
Prior to enrolling at LSU, the lefty was a consensus 4-star prospect out of William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, where he led the Quakers to back-to-back Inter-Academic League championships (2024, 2025) under head coach Brandon Williams.
As a senior, Gilhool led William Penn to a 24-5 record, a perfect 10-0 mark in Inter-Academic (Inter-Ac) League play and the semifinals of the PAISAA State Tournament. He averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game en route to earning Non-PIAA First Team All-State honors from the Pennsylvania Sportswriters Association.
A three-time Pennsylvania All-State selection, Gilhool emerged as a top prospect in 2023-24 after transferring to William Penn from Westtown School and reclassifying to the Class of 2025. He led the Quakers to their first outright Inter-Ac league title in 20 years with a team-high 22 points in the pivotal 68-62 win over Episcopal Academy en route to earning MVP honors. He averaged 14.8 points on 57.1 percent shooting with a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game as a junior.
Gilhool was a consensus 4-star prospect by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals out of high school while all three ranked him among the top 20 power forwards nationally. He was considered the top prospect in the state of Pennsylvania by both 247Sports and Rivals.
Gilhool picked LSU after offers from Georgia Tech, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Miami, Mississippi State, Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Washington and Temple among others.
Gilhool is the eighth player to join the Wildcats this spring, joining 7-foot-1, 255-pound center JT Rock (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln/Iowa State/New Mexico), 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward Isaiah Abraham (Gainesville, Va./Paul VI/UConn/Georgetown), 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard Jaden Schutt (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville Christian/Duke/Virginia Tech), 6-foot-2, 185-pound high school point guard Jaylen Alexander (Oxford, Ala./ Oxford), 6-foot-10, 238-pound forward Brock Vice (Memphis, Tenn./Houston/Creighton/North Texas/Murray State), 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward Dezdrick (Dez) Lindsay (Louisville, Ky./Male/Florida SouthWestern/Oregon) and 6-foot-4, 180-point forward Devin Hutcherson (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents).
