Five Wildcats Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A record-setting five K-State baseball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, recognizing their accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.
Infielder Grant Gallagher, outfielder Cadyn Karl, and pitchers Tazwell Butler, James Guyette, and Lincoln Sheffield each earned the distinction, marking the third consecutive season K-State has had multiple selections. The Wildcats' five honorees surpass the previous program record of four Academic All-District selections set in 2024.
A native of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Butler graduated with a 3.64 GPA in criminology. The right-hander appeared in 21 games, including four starts, and recorded 58 strikeouts over 55 innings while holding opponents to a team-best .239 batting average. In his four starts, Butler logged 22 innings with a 4.09 ERA.
Gallagher, who graduated with a 3.67 GPA in finance, was one of three players to appear in all 57 games in his first season with the Wildcats. He finished the season hitting .267 with a .399 on-base percentage and .421 slugging percentage. The Tallahassee, Florida product added 14 doubles, one triple and five home runs with a team-high 44 walks.
Carrying a 3.60 GPA in criminology, Guyette finished the season with a 6-4 record and 5.56 ERA while leading K-State with 105 strikeouts, including a team-high 33 strikeouts looking. The Newbury Park, California product's strikeout total set the program's junior class single-season record, surpassing the previous mark established by AJ Morris in 2009. Guyette's 105 strikeouts rank fourth in school history for a single season.
Karl, a redshirt junior from Edmond, Oklahoma, earned recognition while maintaining a 3.50 undergraduate GPA in finance and a 3.66 GPA in K-State's MBA program. In his third season with the Wildcats, Karl posted career-best offensive numbers, batting .255 with a .344 on-base percentage and .482 slugging percentage. He finished the year with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 14 stolen bases, ranking second on the team in steals.
Sheffield, who graduated with a 3.72 GPA in management, finished 8-4 with a 4.87 ERA across 88 2/3 innings. A native of Flowood, Mississippi, Sheffield issued just 20 walks all season and established a K-State senior class single-season record with a team-leading eight wins. He concluded his Wildcat career with 15 victories, becoming the 13th pitcher in program history to reach that milestone.
K-State finished the 2026 campaign with a 30-27 overall record and an 11-19 mark in Big 12 play, securing its fourth consecutive 30-win season. The streak ties the longest run of 30-win seasons in program history and is the Wildcats' first since 1988-91.
