K-State Thumps UMass Lowell, Off to Best Start in Program History

Aug 28, 2025 | Soccer

LOWELL, Massachusetts – K-State used an avalanche of goals in the second half to down UMass Lowell, 4-0, on Thursday night at Cushing Field Complex and set the school record for consecutive wins. The Wildcats own the best start to a season in program history (4-0-0) and have tied the school record for consecutive matches without a loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- K-State went up, 1-0, in the 28th minute as junior McKinnan Braswell played a ball from midfield to senior forward Andra Mohler. Mohler collected possession, charged towards the net and sent a low right-footed shot past the UMass Lowell (1-3-0) keeper from 10 yards.
- The goal was Mohler's first of the season and the third of her K-State career. Braswell was credited with her second assist of the season.
- In the 61st minute a unique play occurred in favor of the Wildcats. K-State had the ball in the UMass Lowell 18-yard box. As K-State junior forward Rilyn Rintoul attempted to shoot, the ball became trapped under a River Hawk defender which resulted in an indirect kick from 15 yards for the Wildcats.
- Braswell nudged the ball back to sophomore forward Allison Marshall, who blasted her right-footed shot into the upper left corner for her second goal of the season and put the Wildcats in front, 2-0.
- K-State added another goal to its lead in the 62nd minute. Mohler collected possession following a UMass Lowell turnover just inside the 18-yard box, took two dribbles and slid a pass across frame to sophomore forward Hannah Palmer. The product of Bucyrus, Kansas, slid on the ball and finished into the open frame with her left foot.
- With the goal, Palmer set the school record for goals in consecutive matches with her third of the season.
- The 1:15 span between the second and third goals was the fastest by the Wildcats since setting the school record of 16 seconds against Green Bay on Aug. 29, 2024.
- K-State punched in its final goal in the 86th minute, as sophomore forward Gabby DeMers poked in a rebound from the doorstep as UMass Lowell stopped an initial shot from Palmer but left the rebound for DeMers to score her first career goal.
- K-State finished the night with a 16-2 advantage in total shots, including an 8-1 lead in shots on goal. The Wildcats did not surrender a shot attempt in the first half.

FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Colleen Corbin

On how aggressive the team played in the first half…
"We thought UMass Lowell wanted to pass and keep the ball, so we had talked to the team about asserting suffocating pressure early and making it uncomfortable. I was proud of the group for putting their foot on the gas and setting the tone early."

On the play of Andra Mohler
"Andra was incredible at training this week, so we had a feeling she was going to have a spark tonight. She has worked hard all offseason to put herself in a position to be dangerous and I'm incredibly happy for her that she was rewarded tonight."

On scoring on the indirect kick in the second half…
"We had actually trained that set piece situation in practice during the first week of training, so it was really exciting for the girls to be prepared for the moment and for Allison (Marshall) to bury her opportunity. It was a really great goal."

On the play of Hannah Palmer over the last three matches…
"Hannah continues to train and play with an incredibly high work rate and a relentless mindset to get forward and score goals and it shows. She has the ability to create something out of nothing and to score all different types of goals. She is absolutely a threat that teams will need to continue to account for, and we're very happy she's a Wildcat."

On the confidence of the backline…
"Our backline continues to fire on all cylinders and work incredibly well together. There is a high level of belief and trust in one another and its been fun to watch them continue to grow. (Associate Head Coach) Julie (McClure), who is our defensive coach, has done an incredible job with that group, making sure there is a high level of understanding of each of their positional roles and responsibilities, as well as their positioning. Very proud of the their collective coach-ability and commitment to earning shutouts."
