Tennis Continues Road Stretch with Two Matches in Arkansas

MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team will compete over the weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., starting on Saturday (February 7) against Tulsa at Billingsley Tennis Center.
K-State (0-1) will start the weekend at 3 p.m. on Saturday in a neutral site match against Tulsa (4-2). The Wildcats are 1-2 against the Golden Hurricane, losing the last meeting on February 10, 2023, in Oklahoma, 4-3.
Facing Arkansas (4-0) at 10 a.m. on Sunday (February 8), this will be the 4th match between the schools, the Razorbacks leading the series at 2-1. During the last meeting, in Palo Alto, Calif., in 2023 during the ITA Kickoff Weekend, K-State lost 4-0.
In the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles and doubles rankings of the spring, the Wildcats had one duo featured, junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav and freshman Martaa Chogsomjav at #33.
Facing the Razorbacks, they have multiple athletes listed in the ITA rankings, in singles, Carolina Gomez Alonso (22) and Katarina Pavlechova (91), while Gomez Alonso and Anet Koskel are listed in doubles at #27.
During the first dual match of the season on January 30, the Cats started with a ranked opponent, #21 Clemson, where the team fell short in singles matches for a 4-2 loss.
K-State won the doubles point with wins on the first two courts, courtesy of the Chogsomjav sisters and freshman Sasha Kyselova and sophomore Chanel Rustemova. With the advantage heading into singles play, Maralgoo was the only Wildcat who had continued success, defeating Jade Groen in the no. 1 spot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Following the two matches, K-State will start a five-match home stand in Manhattan, starting on February 13 against Wichita State.
